For previous history see G Morant. At the Great Exhibition in 1851 Morant & Co. had a prominent stand showing a circular table supported by swans designed from a suggestion of the Duchess of Sutherland (illus. Meyer (2006), p.29). As Morant and Boyd, the firm also exhibited at the 1853 New York & 1855 Paris exhibitions. A very large sideboard made by Morant, Boyd and Morant, a commission for Lord Ellesmere, was displayed at the 1862 International Exhibition (illus. Meyer (2006), p. 122). A variety of workmen was apparently employed on this piece, with the marble and silk being by a Florentine artist, Mr Romoli. In 1875 the firm’s partners were listed as Morant, Boyd and Blandford and the firm was recorded in Kelly’s London Post Office Directory 1871 as interior decorators, painters, upholsterers, estate and housing managers, carvers, gilders and cabinet makers at 91 New Bond Street and 4-7 Woodstock Street. The manufactory was to the rear of New Bond Street in Haunch of Venison Yard. Morant, Boyd & Blandford was recorded in the Furniture Gazette of 1886 as Art Furniture Manufacturers and Merchants at the New Bond Street address. By 1890 the company was registered as Morant and Co.
