A pair of Gillows rosewood library or side chairs, the shaped backs carved with shell and scroll, cane seats, on scroll carved legs, including removable upholstered seat pads, signed GILLOWS LANCASTER to the back rail, they aare also initialled J L this could indicate that the chairs where made by John Lawson who worked for Gillows in the early 19th Century see page 255 volume two of Susan A Stuart’s book Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730 – 1840
